In 1905, Samuel Newhouse, a mining profiteer from Pennsylvania, bought these mines, originally named the Cactus Mines, renamed them the Newhouse Mines and Smelters, and built the small town Newhouse around the mines. Because of debt and other economic hardships, Newhouse sold and abandoned the town and mines in 1910. All of the drawings and plans in the collection were drawn by R.F.
